2015 Forum Muster
First topic message reminder :
hi all, we have been getting a few enquiries for the 2015 muster, thinking of sandstone this year and due to the poor attendance to Niagara muster 2014 we will be keeping it simple with no fees and consequently no BBQ or prizes awarded. just a get together of as many of us that are keen. post any suggestions on dates ETC and we can start the process of getting leaseholders info for 40E's and/or permissions as required.
cheers

Just to let those that saw the hot rocks that we had, one has 5.4grams in it, one had 1.2g and one had .8 in it. The others had nothing.
pays to check them and not with just with a magnet.
thanks martin, we left early for medical reasons. Top area and plenty there for many years to come. TG

Martin, where do we go next year all suggestions are welcome.
Or do we go back there again ?? it was a top turn out with a good crew.
I gotta feeling the fire place will have to be bigger next year

Martin, Drove through Quinns back in the 80's and a family were dryblowing on Ross Atkins leases using a large blower & front end loader.
The heaps stretched for miles, are they still visible in the area?

Re: 2015 Forum Muster
do you know the lease numbers or gps location, most leases have changed hands now, i have explored a lot of ground around Quinns but its a bit hard without some kind of guide to location. most of the old dry blowing piles from the 80's are still visible and not much has changed with them apart from the detectorists holes everywhere on the scrapes. some of the old piles have been dug out to see what was left behind. you can PM me the details if you would rather not post publicly.

Re: 2015 Forum Muster
There was one location that had been scraped and dryblown big time a bit to the south/southeast of our camp area.
Not sure if thats it but it had been done good and proper.

Yes, Martin, Joan is over the moon. She is seriously looking into the set up Phil has in his car and hopes to have it up and running for the next muster. Cheers Bob

Re: 2015 Forum Muster
We're back home. The day has been spend sorting through the usual stack of bills.
The Muster is done for another year but we enjoyed our time away. It took us a week to get there and a couple of weeks to get back. It's always harder to return home.
And of course we found GOLD! Not quite as much as most but gold just the same.
Mrs M's best for the week....
And this was the best I could find right in the middle of a patch marked in Gold & Ghosts where you'd expect it to be swept clean.

Re: 2015 Forum Muster
Our performance on gold detecting wasn't too good so we spent quite a bit of time looking for old bottles and relics as well.
We had to dig deep at times.
The old timers left some big holes as well. This series of holes look more like caves inclined at about 80 degrees down deep.
We found relics growing on trees.
And odd looking wildlife.
There was golden sunshine over our campsite.
But when it came time to venture out Mrs M made her intensions clear.
Thank you to all those who brought Mrs M old bottles they found while out and about. There are a few very nice bottles there that we've not seen before.

Re: 2015 Forum Muster
great pics mr and mrs M, some great relics there, did that spot i showed you payout for ya? hope so.
joan, patsy cline is fine by me. I dont mind the country and western music and a bit of ABBA is fine, haha Cliff,
i just spoke to a mate who knows the ex leaseholder of the quinns dry blowing lease, his nephew just did a week trip there and got 30 odd pieces, one went 10 oz so we all missed that one. best i can figure is that it came from the dry blowing No1 area in a spot littered with old tins etc. so if you have the patience to sought through the metal it could pay off bigtime.
cheers everyone

Re: 2015 Forum Muster
Yes Martin we spent the day fossicking around the area. All the little items in the photo came from there. A little further down the road we found the bottle dump but nearly everything was smashed. We checked out a well there and found the core shed was just the other side of the stony paddock behind.
The following day Old Dragon headed us down to Quinns Lake Well where there were a few more bottles. I took off over the ridge leaving Mrs M searching along the river bank. When I returned I gave her a call on the walky talky but never got a reply. I did a little search of the area and spotted her 500m away so started the bus and went down there.
I asked "why didn't you answer when I called?"
I got a teary response "I lost the radio."
The next ten minutes was spent with her retracing her path while I continued to chatter on the other radio until she found the little bugger chattering away on the river bank
