Re: Missing prospectors
I know I'm wrong to post this but most folk in this game have spent a lifetime paying taxes and never asked for assistance, but go to sea from any nation and you can only guess at the resources from our coffers that are thrown out to show International goodwill. What price is a life. Again, I apologise for my shallowness.

Re: Missing prospectors
you have a point mingo why is it that the land based search parties in the goldfields are not so well equipped or have the resources needed. gees i even heard the cops didnt have a GPS and had to borrow one. WT???

Re: Missing prospectors
I guess its not really a results based exercise from the government's perspective, just as long as someone is seen to be doing something that's ok, these people out searching should not be there if they are not well enough equipped if that really is the case, and if the cops don't have a gps then there's a fair chance that they are not experienced in the use of one anyway, and if they are country based cops then they should be, and should have access to them, I would have thought that this would be the case.
In light of the amount of people who have gone missing over the last couple of years and I believe its about 24 or so, with about 6 as yet unfound, you can guarantee that at some point carrying of Epirbs will be mandatory and involve licencing etc., someone will work out the dollar value to the government in the exercise and the will make it law, but people will still go bush without safety gear and still get lost.
If the government were to implement laws on epirbs then perhaps they should introduce a scheme like with the satellite phones and give a rebate to people who can prove that they spend time in the bush, get the price of the units down and more people will probably carry them, at the end of the day there's no point passing laws and making it so if nobody is going to be able to police it
At the end of the day the epirb has to be able to be carried on your person, no point having one attached to the bike/quad/4wd if you have wandered away from it and gotten lost its of little use to you.

Was watching the show "Kalgoorlie Cops" a month or so back, a woman of the night mentioned about how "Tourists" go missing more than the locals and that their are a lot of mine shafts in W.A, so it seem to be common knowledge for W.A people???
Anybody else see the episode I'm talking about?

Re: Missing prospectors
Every single Kal Local can tell you how to get rid of a body.
("A lot of mine shafts (take your arm in any direction, do a 360 degree turn) out there period.....")

Re: Missing prospectors

If they are missing for 2-3 weeks only the body wouldn't be in such a decomposed state that only skeletal remains were left.

Re: Missing prospectors
The skeleton will be old. Where the couple are is anyones guess but I'm sure one day they will be found.

Hi All,
Evidently they are both flyin-flyout workers, so should be well off and have no reason to do a flyer, who knows what's happened
