Re: Missing prospectors
prob just stuck in some mud somewhere and sticking it out till it dry's out a bit. never good to hear of these things and we should all take the opportunity to check our safety gear and vehicles thoroughly.

Re: Missing prospectors
Most roads in and around Sandstone are currently closed or flooded, even the cops are unable to get out there by vehicle, hope they are ok but are probably just bogged or unable to get out
Take care all and a safe season for you all

Re: Missing prospectors
This is not looking good for them. Apparently their camp site has been found but no sight of the husband and wife.

Certainly doesn't look promising for a happy ending, just hope it isn't foul play?

Re: Missing prospectors
they had plenty of water and food at the camp so either they must of tried to walk out leaving two 4wd and even a quad in their camp, or they are lost out there together. all a bit strange but shows you how easy it is.
one thing to note is that they are quite inexperienced with only a few trips under their belt, highlights the importance of these forums and the shared knowledge and opportunity to go out with experienced people when you first start up.

Doesn't sound good to me, they may be inexperienced but they had working vehicles, water and food. Re: Missing prospectors
Hopefully all will turn out well and they will be found alive, seems as though they might have been detecting together and got lost or one of them has gotten lost and the other gone looking for them, but if that were the case then why was the quad still there?, my main concern is that there has been disappearances in the goldfields over the last couple of years from Menzies, Kalgoorlie, Meekatharra and the people still not found.
Its easy enough to get lost even for the experienced but with only two trips under their belts and being in a remote area is a recipe for disaster if you are ill prepared but they were obviously well equipped and had planned well, so something completely out of their control must have occurred as they would not abandon their camp, and had three vehicles they could have used to get to town if need be.

Re: Missing prospectors
I was told that their beloved great dane showed up at the van park very thirsty and exhausted. Does not sound good for the missing couple, but with the police and ses currently scouring the area near the Bellchambers mine, I hope they are found safe and well.

Re: Missing prospectors
Latest report says the search is into it's 5th day and still no sign of them.
Awfully strange as no mention has been made about the dog.
I wonder if they did get lost and were trying to find a way back to Sandstone on foot.

Re: Missing prospectors
Police said they were alerted to the fact the couple was missing when their dog was spotted in town.
They said the dog walked about 25 kilometres into the town caravan park from the campsite, one week after the couple was last seen.
The dog had a microchip registered with the Town of Beverly and authorities were able to contact relatives and find out where the owners were.
When police visited the campsite, they found no sign of the couple and spoiled food indicated they had been missing for some time.
Specialist teams have scoured disused mine shafts in the area, but found no trace of the Kehlets.

Re: Missing prospectors
from the news report:
"a 4wd quad that was theirs has been located within close proximity to the campsite"(end quote)
just maybs..would of been a good idea to take the dog back to the quad, perhaps it would of backtracked
to where it was last with its owner. Dogs have a good memory and are smart like that.

Re: Missing prospectors
I sincerely hope this finishes well for them but it's all a bit strange.
unfortunately I think we have another mystery on our hands.
Why would 2 People walk off from there camp ?
Why would the dog walk back to town ? that's providing it was with them all the time.
it just doesn't make sense.

Re: Missing prospectors
Hmm, if he was an experienced "Bushman" then where are they and why no personal epirb to alert anyone.
A lot of people say they are "experienced", but are they.
I have a horrible feeling this will not end well. It's the time frame again. Too long since last seen.

Re: Missing prospectors
thats the problem cliff, people think because they have been camping all their life or lived in the bush they are immune to unforeseen problems. EVERYONE get a EPIRB please. dont care how much you know navigations by the stars or the sun or whatever just swallow your pride and get one b4 the next trip, i carry two of everything electronic safety equip (two gps and two epirbs) just in case and at least 4 sets of spare batteries.i also ensure i pick batteries from different packs as you may get a faulty batch and have a pocket full of duds. life is more valuable that any amount of gold.
