What do you swing for gold
Thought i'd ask members to post up what detector they swing while out searching
for the good old yeller,Whether its a SD/GP/GPX or whether its a Modded machine, or
even a VLF.
Some may be swinging a Whites or a Garrett or a Fisher, it would be interesting to see the
cross section of members detectors....
My weapon is a GPX5000 and i'm very happy with the performance of it
so far, ive had no breakdowns and it is pulling gold left right & centre from my old patches that i've
flogged the livin guts outta with every previous Minelab Pulse Model.
Also i'm a shoulder speaker user, i used to always use headphones back in the day until i made the
leap and tried a speaker & since then i carry them incase the speaker craps itself but never use em otherwise.

Re: What do you swing for gold
2 very extreme extremes unmodded and an old XT17000 as a back up in case one of the extreme extremes has a hissy fit.
I love my extremes, they are easy to use.

I swing a GPX4500 and a NFA16" mono. I like headphones and use Koss TD80's.
I don't think that I will upgrade to a GPX5000 because, for me, I can't see that there is the difference to warrant the outlay. But that's only my opinion. I find my share with the above combination.
My wife uses a GP3000 coupled to a ML11"DD and Koss UR30's and she likes that. She won't use a mono coil.
Regards Roger

Re: What do you swing for gold
Using gp3000 with few coils Minelab mono 11'', Coiltek 11'' DD, Coiltek 14''DD Pro Elite.
Used 4000 and 5000 (hired them few times).
Found gold with every machine. All under 1 gram.
Still newbie and learning.
Will upgrade after the summer to 5000gpx or a new house whatever comes cheaper. :)

Re: What do you swing for gold
4500 with a 12" NFA mono for most areas and an 8" mono for the surfaced areas. Only had it since june so still learning. Have the standard 11"DD but dont use it.
If i were to average it out, then its about 2 to 3 nuggets per month... but i only get out once or twice a month (big days though).
Im sure i can only improve :)

Re: What do you swing for gold
What do I swing for gold? Two sticks of silver solder. not really but love to try out the art of divining.
I run a GPX4500 coupled with an 11" commander mono, for the trashy areas a sovgt and when I get it modded a Garret pro pin pointer.
I usually run an external speaker on the 4500 but if I run head phones I use underchin in summer and the standard Koss in winter.
I tried headphones on the sov once but they didn't work in stereo, only mono....so don't use them on this machine??

Re: What do you swing for gold
extreme, with the little battery packs that go on the side, with a speaker mounted on the detector, i had a shoulder speaker, but i cant go back to having wires hanging off me and the brick on my back..
Really loving swinging the pick and shovel lately , when my back is good. Sluicing is such a great thing to break the monotony of detecting.
I try to pan, sluice and detect every time i go out.
Panning shows me theres very small stuff, sluicing shows theres better stuff, then i clean the hole with the detector.

Re: What do you swing for gold
I run a GPX4500, hasn't missed a beat in the years that I have owned it and keeps finding the nugs from 0.04 up to, well, one can only imagine the big nuggs still to be found.
Yeah goldstalkergpx, have heard of some using the sticks to do a bit of divining on the gold field. Could be interesting.

Re: What do you swing for gold
Me. GPX5000 with NF 12" Adv. mono or Commander 11" mono. Did use speakers and a DeTacc Enhancer but now just use good ol' Koss UR30's and no Enhancer. Have used both the 4500 and 4000. All great machines.
My wife Jo. She has used and hates the 4500, dislikes the 5000 but loves her 4000. Same coils but uses Koss 80's thru a modified Detacc Enhancer (to suit the 5000 battery).
Also have an 8" Coiltek pinpointer. Great little bit of kit.
Robert
PS Have access to D9, Komatsu Excavator, explosives. Do not have access to a place to use them. B#GGER!!!

Maybe a re-wire internally Pete, I bought my sov second hand....I will try some other headphones and see what result I get.....I have some expensive Sennheiser phones I use just for music as well, so will see what happens and let you know.

Re: What do you swing for gold
Hi all, 4500 here with a 14 x 9 NFA. External speaker gal - I like to hear random slitherings, birds, drop bears etc while walking in the bush and earphones are a bit restrictive for me.
Hmmm, doesn't seem to make much difference to finding gold of late though....you still have to walk over it, and I think my internal antennae have malfunctioned on me

Re: What do you swing for gold
GPX4500 with 18"NFA. Also use 16"SL especially with NORMAL timing, little bit less sensitive than the Advantage so it works a little better with higher GAIN on this setting.
Used to wear headphones but now use speaker, got a bit tired of people sneaking up and scaring the sh#t out of me
