We have carried Garmin GPSs since 1990s but find the ETrex interferes with GPZ and 2300 Detectors. Has anyone had experience with the newest Rinos and their interference or hopefully lack of same with newest detectors? These would seem to be excellent as one always can see where ones detecting partner is when separated.

Gday Vivace,
We haven't stepped up the few notches are still swinging the GPX-4500, however the Garmin Rino 650's are in a pouch on our hips and always turned on while detecting.
Never had a problem with any interference through the years of use.

yep they interfere with both my 5000 and 7000 so have no returned to marking my spot/start point and turning off the rhino until needed. even the regular two ways interfere with my 7000.
hope that helps in a way.

I use the eTrex 10 with both the 5000 and 7000 without issue. The eTrex yellow on the other hand was a pain with both.

Hope this helps

Thankyou All for your replies, tracking each other looks like an expensive experiment (only becoming necessary as we are getting on in years). The Garmins did not interfere with earlier detectors, 4500 etc. and have not had any problems with GME TX6000 or TX 6150 UHF radios interfering with any detector we have owned. Maybe putting the Rinos in a backpack may help. Shall keep on thinking, thank you again. Vivace.

Which Garmin eTrex are you using that interferes with the 5K and the 7K Vivace?

I have used a Summit and a Gecko and both interfere. Just turn them off when detecting and back on if I have misplaced the vehicle or camp and wish to return. It is more the 7000 and 2300 making the Garmins give false readings. I was wondering if the Rino did the same, as they would need to be left on if using them to see where my detecting partner is. Hi Joe,

Interesting stuff. When I found the eTrex yellow interfered with the 5000 I tried my friends eTrex 10 and found it didn't. So I bought one of those. I use the eTrex 10 to electronically chain an area without leaving the tell tale marks both with the 5000 and the 7000. But I didn't leave it at that, I looked into what may cause this and found that the two units used mostly the same channels for the satellite tethers, but not all. So I came to the conclusion that one of the channels the eTrex yellow was using was to blame. Not sure if you can isolate different channels on your unit or not? Alternatively you maybe able to work out which one is the offender and purchase a unit without that channel.

Probably more info than you wanted but hey it good to share experiences.

Regards Steve

Hi Steve,

Have been watching the Garmins and they seem to alter which channels they access as the day progresses. After some thought have decided to visit Johnny Appleseed in St Kilda, armed with detectors and see if he has an answer. If not, they can ask Garmin.
Cheers, Joe.

I found that if my GPS or other Equipment played up with the detector, I would place it out of range of the coil and while facing the device retune the detector. This worked with a number of GPS and Radio for me.
