sick of the rain
My GPX 5000 arrived yesterday and so did the rain, my van is loaded, the car is fuelled, food is stocked, and its pissing down rain for 300klm around me....
Glad i took a week off to sit hear and listen to the rain hammer down on the roof.
Atleast the 5k came with the JP vid, i can watch that 300 times...
Are there any better vids that go into setting more indepth?
I have unlocking the 5k its good viewing but i would love to see what happens when every setting is tweaked slightly in different conditions, and different ground types..

Never run in Factory pre-sets ever.
Never take the DD out the box it came in.
Never run the Stabilizer Below 5.
Never use or trust the discriminator.
Never use the crap velcro strips - use tape instead.
Never let MM have a go on it, no matter how much beer he's got sorry MM.
Always try to get the Gain up to at least 14.
Always Run in Fixed GB and re balance often.
Always Hit any spots thrashed or not, the 5000 will still get some more.
Always tell MM "mate i said no, bugger off but leave ya beers" .
All jokes aside Maka, hope the rain pisses off and comes over here mate, your gonna love that new beast.
PS - MM Whiskey might get ya a go on it mate

Re: sick of the rain
Whats a DD? DOG DINNER?. They do make great frizbees for the dogs ...
Cheers for making it simple, will try to crank it as much as i can , 1 setting at a time so i dont confuse myself too much to start off with..
Cant wait to dig a million .000001 gram nugs..
MM can have a play any time he wants, he is good with his own gear, and would look after anything he borrowed. I treat my gear like crap, so i never borrow anything...
The last thing i ever borrowed was an electric cement mixer. I plugged it in, got zapped, and the guy wanted me to replace the motor??? WTF it neally killed me, and i never even put a shovel of dirt in it...
I never borrow anything...
I have been given 5k's several times to use but always say no..

Maka, it's your 5000 mate. You can tweak it as much as you like.

Re: sick of the rain
Thanks for the great advice.
Stab was set to 1
Gain flat stick
Seemed to work ok in my books... And found a few to stick in the jar.
not too much EMI, ground noise of false targets to worry about...
One odd thing though is that i tried salt settings, because i was getting that low groan at the end of some sweeps due to the soaked ground, but salt made it worse, and i just went back to fine gold.

Re: sick of the rain
Sounds like "PickHolder on belt" syndrome Maka.
Good way to tell if its from salt is you will get a weeee one way and a waaaa the other if
that makes sense
You also get (-) minus response instead of a (+) plus response.

Re: sick of the rain
I have a good GF she carries the pick , and even digs when my backs shagged, so its not the pick...
It was probably just the nature of the soil, being mineralized, and changing from pipe clay to red irony conglomerate, wet, and differnet depths, with old charcoal in some places from old bush fires.
And my inexperience with this new tector.
