After the rain.

Managed to get out and about for a swing over the last few days after waiting for the tracks to dry up a bit.Was very enjoyable digging the nice softened red dirt with all targets except one being gold.Ended up with a nice little tally for a few days swinging in the 40c heat and March flies.

Chad it can be a long time between drinks mate.Have many a trip under the belt where i come back with nothing.Before cyclone Peta dumped all that rain on us a mate and i had been prospecting an area that looked the goods for the best part of 3 weeks without success only finding bullets and rubbish.The last day in the area before the rain we moved a couple of km's over a small ridge line onto the flats and bingo we found some colour.My mate scored a nice slug that day and hopefully he will post it on here as he is a member.

BTW how much did the speci weigh before & after? either thats one big button or the wood plank is really small? looks like you got the refining down pat may need to ask some advise on that area as i usually sell my little gold(keep the biggys) but wouldnt mind melting down some of the ugly stuff into buttons like the ones you have pictured....how did you go about melting them, furnace or torch? or something?

Hi Carms,the specie went 87g and after the dolly treatment yielded 28g.Melted the gold using a mapp gas torch and borax for flux.The intial melt was done without flux then the final melt was done with flux to bring the impurities to the top.





Its a good way to spend a lazy evening with a couple of coldies.Love the look of freshly melted gold.

back to Perth today 41 fkn deg back up north tues least it's a bit colder there and I can hide in me air con donga.

It's a nice feeling to get onto a decent run and get up a few brag shots up but like you say it doesent show the weeks of hard slog for zero return that it often takes to lob onto a new patch good on ya
