extra depth with the 5k--
sourced this info from another trusted fella who knows his stuff.
use a 18"DD coil on the ground.
put the 5k into Normal
flick to Cancel mode.
if u have low settings on your Gain and Stabilizer then crank them up a bit.
if the machine gets a bit noisy then put the Audio into Quiet Mode..
this will give u a depth advantage over other settings on yah machine.
This method is only suitable for deep soil structures with gravels and clays etc not were u have bedrock.
If u r swinging a small coil say a sadie or 8" commander in such ground then u will be missing larger deeper targets
If it works for u then a 2 gram nugget in the mail will be a welcome site.

Mmmm…, I've never used a 5000 but 'cancel mode"?? I can't see for the life of me how that would give more depth - I reckon it would purr like a kitten but halve the depth at best!! Anyway that's my first reaction and no disrespect - I'd be pleased to hear from someone who can verify it with a test or two.
I have no way of testing it here in the city - and I only have the 4500 anyway!

I agree with you Stingray, I know where it came from and I reckon crap.Stingray wrote:Mmmm…, I've never used a 5000 but 'cancel mode"?? The same bloke had a secret ground balance that was also shown to be crap.

Re: extra depth with the 5k--
don't forget it only works on a DD coil--so if anyone does have a ge then let me know if it works for them.
The other factor that may help is when your machine is blanking out then flick the button to cancel this will also help u get over the noise factor whilst pinpointing.

Re: extra depth with the 5k--
This is from the manual for the 5k
Cancel
This setting provides a receive field that is particularly stable
in areas of electrical interference. This position is ideal for
detecting close to suburbia or where the Tune function
has difficulty selecting a quiet operational channel (e.g.
near power lines, phone towers or under poor atmospheric
conditions).
Pinpointing in Cancel will be to the left side of the coil and
signals may be complex if the target is close to the coil. In
Cancel, sensitivity and depth are slightly reduced. You may be
able to increase Rx Gain (p. 63) if using Cancel.
The people who made the machine claim depth is slightly reduced in cancel so I think I will go with them.

That's what I do when I get loud targets, eliminates the chance of putting a pick through the middle of your nugget and let's you pinpoint to an inch. Can save a lot of digging but you do need to be within a inch or so of the target for it to work with a mono coil
