GROUND BALANCING--- Empty GROUND BALANCING---

Post by Guest Tue 05 Jun 2012, 7:30 pm

Just want to find out from anyone who may noticed a difference when they ground balance there machines 25mm of the ground at a stand still befor releasing the button compared to sitting the coil on the ground and then releasing the button..

I have started to leave the coil on the ground and then release the button...personally havent noticed any change..mind u the ground has plenty of small rocks on it compared to a sand pitch..

My machine settles down and I'm away again..

Mind u didnt find gold in the last 2 days but did find a piece saturday.

Feed back most welcome..

Have tried that myself and it balanced ok but wasn't as sensitive to small bits especially when
there was a heap of magnetic ironstone gravel on the surface crust.
I prefer the last pump n hold to be only 1cm off the dirt, this gives a good balance but doesn't allow
for the magnetic sands to interfere with the Balance and throw it out a tad.

I fully agree with Pete. Tried both ways. I pump up and down about 25-30mm and stop aboutr 10-20mm above ground each time then hold the button in for a count of three seconds, let it off then don't move the coil for anothert three seconds. Magical!!!

RIGHTY OH boys u both convince me to go back to the original system and stop reinventing the gold wheel.

Thanks for your advice both Pete and Robert and maybe I'll slow down for a second or two after i let go of the button..I get too impatient--must come with age..

Good question.

Correct ground balancing is the probably most underrated skill
in P.I. metal detecting imho

I ground balance the way Dr. Pete recommends.

You take the usb cord for ya Ipod. Plug one end into the Ipod and the other end into ya left ear or maybe the right ear. if ya don't hear anything, then strip the wires from a live 240V line and hang on.
Gets rid of interference and I'm ground balanced :rolf:
