Starting with the sparrows tomorrow, another couple are beginning their 4000km. journey West to brouse around the goldfields.

Although we have been to WA previously this is a first on a detecting venture.
No great expectations, if a gram or so of the good yellow is detected what a bloody bonus.

Have the Miners Right, APLA membership, a thirst that on occassion could be photographed.
Hopefully we have most of the right credentials, love the bush camping environment and have to say pleased to see the end of that dreadful leader of the Greenies.

Now if there is an outback pub that any members may be seen in from time to time (we are over for 4 months) give us a heads up and will try to meet (and shout a beer) cheers

With next g modem will be on the forum when possible.
Mike

Safe driving. Steve and I are always out there somewhere, if not in the bush.. Just keep posted on where you are and we might catch up for a beer or two.

Came through Kimba, 9.00am this morning.
The biggest RBT in the whole country must be set up there.
Both lanes diverted on to a standing area,at least 30 cops, blokes and sheila's, all very upright and officious.
Drug check bays, the full catastrphe.

We were waved over into what looked like the members only area and this very macho young cop asked me "have you got your licence?" "I hope so" I replied. "I wish to inspect it". "well hang on while I look for it"
Chris giving me "the look" I said "oh, here it is"
Next, "have you had a drink today?" "not yet" "I want you to blow in this etc. etc.".............."so have a good day"

Here we are this evening nicely set up west of Penong with the fire going, rissoles and asparagus on the grill, a few rough reds and making ready for the next drama.
WA, we are coming!

Arrived in Kal. yesterday arvo.

Chris checked out the retail side of things whilst I checked out the "skimpy's" at the Exchange.

Price of the beverage over here a bit savage though ($8/pint)
Still, I suppose the state of the local economy one has to try and help.

Post by boobook Fri 27 Apr 2012, 4:04 pm

G'day Pete.
Now this is not quite the topic of the post, but you just may be able to shed a little light on the matter.

The first undertaking was to make application for section 20a permits, 20 blocks in the Laverton area (extrapolated from historic mines/google earth)

OK, the application takes 21 days, no drama there BUT the following appears on the info. sheets.

"Although ther consent of the licence holder is not reqired, the licence holder will be notified by thew Dept., of the issue of the permit and has 21 days to advise the permit holder in a licence statementof any concerns relaying to the nominated area.
Prospectors should plan and apply well in advance of the field trip, to allow for the 21 days advice period before the permit becomes operational (if a licencee statement has not been received). When the permit is issued, access to the exploration licence is not allowed for the first 21 days or until a permit holder receives a licencee statement, whichever occurs sooner"

This is pretty much repeated in the conditions (2) on the back of the form.

Geeez, if a bloke has to wait 42 days before getting goin' he's goin' to end up a jibbbering alcoholic mess. drunken
The Laverton pub might come in handy when the rough red runs out. (Chris is shuddering already!) pale

Any comment much appreciated
Mike

G`Day Mike,

If I might break in before Pete gets here......................no, you only have to wait 21 days before you can go on the section 20a. Unless you get a letter back from the tenement holder saying they would prefer you to stay off haul roads or something similar. I have only had one letter back from the heap I have done and that was a geo trying to call my bluff. A quick trip to the DMP solved that in one phone call.
I make a point of not going on them before the due date.

Good luck with it.

Cheers,

Driller.

Thanks Driller and you too Pete.
From a boozers point of view I was truly hoping it wouldn't come down to the good old "bush blush"
Opening a bottle of the main ingredient could be a bit of a worry in that region.

We have a bit of time up the sleeve, will have a poke around Menzies (Chris wants a perve of the rude statues on the lake) and a camp at Niagara could be the go.
A decent load of firewood in the truck, plenty of chops, spuds n onions (and black sauce) for the camp oven, reckon it will do the "nulla" weary bodies a power of good.

Thanks again blokes for your well received advice and help cheers

Thanks for that info BN.

I spose many people simply "eat to live"

We are on the opposing spectrum, "living to eat" (and drink lol! )

Which means we have the yabby traps, fishing gear and a couple of ways of dealing with ducks/rabbits/roos et al.
(emu ok, but you gotta peel all that fat off)

Should be camped at Niagara by this weekend, will be well sussed out for sure. Wink
