Any Last Minute Tips ??

Picking up the 4500 tomorrow and getting excited about my first serious swing !! As you know heading for somewhere near Southern X with the club over Easter. Exact location unknown which is a bit of a bastard because I cant research it, but fair enough there might be some left .
I'm gonna look for dark coloured quartz, mafic meeting ultra-mafic, fat trees, old water courses, swing low & slow, get my settings right (thanks Pete), walk, walk, walk and then drink as many Bundies as I can. What did I forget :?:

my advice, TRUST your machine, and dig everything !!!! the 4500 screams on big gold as well, just a tip, all 4500's have one freq that really stands out from the others and is different on each machine, with the channel (freq) on each side of that one (harmonics) being very good, if you have the time a bit of lead (gold would be better) a steep sided creek, insert target 12-18" down into side of creek, and go through the freqs start from which ever end ie 1 or 265, and 1 at a time ground balance and go over the target and EVENTUALLY you will find the one that is the sweet freq for that machine, you WILL know when you have hit it, mine is ch45 others i have seen are in the 200's, takes a while and is boring but what a difference in signal on the "sweet" channel.... hope this helps, regards and good luck, gary

This is one of the smarter bits of experienced advice I have ever seen.
It is definitely worth the time to do this.
It works!
Each machine seems to have a sweet spot that can make a difference.

i'm off tommorow with a 4500[hired] never used a tector b4.i have a little speci and some small flakes to try this on. stupid question but to find the sweet channel could i do this in me backyard b4 i go or better to test in the dirt i'll be working?

oh some tips on settings would be very helpful sounds like i get 11inch mono and dd coils with the machine.if i've learnt anything here it would be try mono 1st. but if carn't get machine quite enough switch to dd ??

Lojay i'd be doing your tuning out on the dirt you'll be swiging on mate,backyards and houses etc not ideal places to set up a detector.Go with the mono coil and stick ya 45 in enhance and wind up your gain 10 - 13 stab 6 - 8 and signal flatout,could be a bit noisy depending on your ground type but the signals will be booming.Good luck on your trip mate and hope you swing over the good stuff.
