Speci Calcs
While recently rumageing through a heap of old paper work, I stumbled onto a hand written set of instructions on how to calculate the amount of gold in a specimen. I then thought there maybe a couple of people in here that could use the information. So after a long session of 2 finger typing here it is. Maybe some of you could post some photos and specs of your specimens.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1 Weigh the specimen in air, (As you normally do)
2 " " " " water.
3 Subtract the weight in water from the weight in air.
4 Divide the answer (difference) into the weight in air. This is the Specific Gravity (S.G.) of your specimen.
5 Now match the S.G. from step 4 to the chart, and read off the percentage gold.
6 Convert the percentage to gold weight.
E.G: S.G. = 17
Weight in air = 120 grams
The Calculation is, 120 ÷ 100 X 98.13 = 117.75 Grams Gold

Re: Speci Calcs
No worries peterau, my old brain can not remember where I got the hand written version from.
But I can remember using it many, many times during the GOOD OLD DAYS. (1960-70s)
