Re: speakers vs headphones
Personal choice really Lochie, I prefer speaker but on windy days or detecting near others I used headphones, I also reckon though that the faint targets can be heard better with headphones and it is easier to concentrate on the threshold. But when it heats up, ya can throw the headphones away.

Speaker, unless your in VIC or any other place that has loads
of dry leaves and twings crunching under ya boots, then h/phones.
Personal choice really and i think if one gives you an advantage over another go for it but also get a hearing test done for the sake of it.

Re: speakers vs headphones
My personal preference is 2 speakers, one on each shoulder.
Allows me to hear what is going on around me, so no bastard can sneak up on me !
You can also wear a wide brimmed hat as well, and no sweaty ears !
Cheers,
Rick

Re: speakers vs headphones
I like Headphones myself. A bit sweaty in the Summer months but keeps your Ears toasty on those Frosty mornings Mid Winter.
I am gunna score a speaker for those times the Good Wife tags along, just so she can be part of the days detecting. The downside of Speakers is if your in an area with high detecting traffic,Such as Hill End, it lets others know your onto gold just when you need that stealth factor of Headphones.

Re: speakers vs headphones
Thank god we dont have that certain problem over here ay Gus
But yeah i fully agree with the stealth mode in Forrest reserves.
I remember years ago up at Jupiter creek in the Adelaide hills you could
hear this bloke loud as hell, and i thought "sh*t he's just 50ft from me"
well i went for a walk and by the time i could eyeball him i had walked
nearly 2klm from my spot i was at.

Re: speakers vs headphones
A bloke recently told me of the weeks that followed the finding of `The Fathers Day Nugget` at Ophir many years ago. He reckons that the whole area sounded like a massive heard of Billygoats from the bleating of the speakers on all the old Garretts.
I reckon we will have the same result at next years DWAG forum meet
It might be a case of follow the `bleating` to the bloke whos found the best patch
