Hey Josh

Burns'y and me took my pro-pointer down to suss boots out and i can guarantee that all the
(Rossi - Redbacks) except for one redback model have plenty steel in em.
The Rossi boots we beeped where some of the worst, they all had steel stiffeners in the soles.

Course they may have not carried the whole range but we beeped about a dozen different models
of each brand and only one came thru with totally no steel at all (Redback).

Maybe Burns'y can chirp in with the Redback boot model number ??

I wear some "mack" safety boots-not sure what model they are but they have a metal free composite toe, good ankle support and are light and comfy. I originally got them for work but now wear them detecting aswell. Next time i get a new pair for work im gonna pick up a second set just for detecting.

Redbacks are slip ons and Macks are laceups..

both are at the top of their mark and are very well priced.

even have sizes down to size 5..

I stock both brands and had a customer buy an extra pair just in case--so how good is that.

I've worn the PU89 T boots for over 5 years now. Virtually every day.
Very comfortable. Excellent fit. No metal. Tough as teak. Very reasonably priced.

Cheers Wally

Them Rossi 303 enduras must have been the ones that the shop didnt stock.
I knew there was a Rossi and redback model with no metal so thats why we
where so shocked when all the Rossi's i beeped had steel in em...

I wear Steel Blue "Launceston" elastic sided "Airport Friendly" (metal free) boots, great for detecting (don't set my 4500 off) and also meet construction site work OH & S standards. Not cheap at $185.00 but are comfortable from day 1 and being elastic sided easy to slip on/off back at camp

Hey fellas,

Just wondering, I'm looking to buy a pair of these as I found out the hard way my non steel cap boots still have some steel in them! I just want to confirm that those Redbacks are UBOK and not U8OK? I didn't find anything with the latter and just wanted to make sure before I lay down some hard earned cash.

Cheers,

Ivy

Maybe just a typo. I'd say UBOK unless redback have changed the model number. Sam will get back to you.

Interesting stuff.
I have metal in the heels of my Mongrels, yet the detector never complains.

I put this down to a strange phenomenon...that being ...when i walk no matter the pace...im unable to catch up to the coil out in front. Razz Rolling Eyes scratch

The difference between Redbacks and Mongrels other than the heel plate in the Mongrels is...the Mongrels have a taller side to the sole...the bit you use to scrape with.

PS, both brands will melt the sole at the same rate when you place your feet to close to the fire. :rolf:

CG - Sorry for the delay gettin back Wink

No dirt gets in, the tongues are fully stitched all the way up the sides of the boot near the laces.

Thanks very much for the help fellas, I found a seller on fleabay with some UBOK's for $68.95 in Melbourne. If you get them posted they are another $10.95 extra. Just thought I'd share. Here's the link if you want to check it out for yourselves. You can choose your size from the drop down menu.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Redback-Work-Boots-UBOK-Bobcat-Claret-Soft-Toe-Elastic-Sided-Brand-New-/120881277419?pt=AU_Men_Shoes&var=&hash=item61ce25e53d#ht_1123wt_956

Oh.... BTW, I am not affiliated with this seller in any way. I just found them and thought I'd pass it on as I've ordered some. It says that they are brand new on the listing so i assume that they are not seconds given the cheaper price. I will report back with the verdict for those that are interested once I get them.
