Just finished slapping up a new system after numerous laptop failures due to heat.
8 gig ram, 8 core black edition cpu, HD6770 gpu.
1TB HDD
970A-D3 MoBoard,,,
Build time 2 beers.
Getting bios sorted 2 days and still trying to fix it...
GOD dam HDD/ MB conflict is doing my mellon in...
Gotta love technology when its all working as it should be, but when its gone haywire, its a headache...
Moral of story, saving a few bucks= losing a weeknd of swing time to sorth this crap out.

Last PC i fiddles with was still running XP.
I use to build them and sell them or build to order, but those days are long gone now with PCs being available for around $200-500
Could not tell you anything about them now days having not kept up with the times on the hardware......how quickly things advance and how far behind you become if you dont follow the trends.
Windows 8 on its way or you can download it off the net to try .... but it wipes your current operating system requiring a reinstall if you want to go back to your older one. Rolling Eyes

Had a quick look at the new Ipad 3 thingy online....its cheaper than most decent laptops and will be the way to go soon.
Sus it out and you'll probable just give up on PC building while your still sane. Laughing

I know the feeling Maka.
I build my pc as i use to play games quite a bit.Few years ago was worth it to build it as Narawa said but nowdays its waste of time.
The good part is you can always fix your pc.
I used to (and still) get calls from friends to fix their computers because they just dont work and they dont know why.Everything was perfect yesterday and they didn't touch it.
I hated this part and it cost me my money and my time to do them favors (thats what friends are for :) ).
It was little bit embarrassing when they had ton of porn and they tried to blame their kids.
You right about wasting time, some of the problems i thought will fix in a few seconds and it took me few days to figure out what was wrong.
Just bin the whole lot and go detecting :)

Reinstalled OS. Hdd firmware, Bios updates, GPU drivers incase of conflicts. Updated windows. Flashed bios, etc etc etc.
Changed ram modules. used different IDE cables. Tried different IDE ports.
Hdd kept coming up as slave in bios and not master. No switch on HDD.
All that and all it was is i needed to install net framework 4 because the GPU conflicted with the MB after the first windows update...
Thanks again microsoft and Nvidia for for releasing a sub standard update.
And it only took 3 days to fix !!!!
I do like tower PC's its like having an old HQ holden sitting next to you purring along.
And they are normally easy to fix...

Oh yeah...went down that road with the Manaro version desktop with more LED colored fans, V8 shaped heat sinks for CPU cooling, Very Happy ...chip coolers, ram coolers, colored cable tubing, systems guardian fan CPU monitor thingy, extra USB ports, overclocking everything clockable, put more fans in to stop the BSOD, leave side cover off, put side cover on with ducting strait to the CPU to stop turbulence ... Rolling Eyes TV tuner card, 2x burners, external HDDs ..... $$$ worth of video cards that had to be swapped out for various games..... you name it i shuved it into my alien faced pro case till i had the PSU smoken...than id buy a new PSU rip the fan out of the cooked one and find an empty spot for it.. Rolling Eyes Laughing
Loved it..it was like you say...rebuilding an old holden the way you wanted it. All good till you went to bed and the sound of the PC fans continues to ring in your head like the bitch next doors vacuum cleaner.....My tinnitus actually changes gears like a top loader. The turbo spooling up and the waste gate opening and the blowoff valve are reminders of my hot-roding days of the desktop.

Trying to distinguish now which is threshold of the 4500 and which is tinnitus. I hate computers. 3273188554

Im now using a basic laptop with a couple blue LEDs and a fan the size of a 20c piece.
However!!!! i have had a peak inside.....and was thinking of re-building the underside over a perspex box with neon's and one of those rubber roll up colored keyboards. Maybe just one exhaust fan with multicolored LEDS.
Perhaps a new battery system built into the clear box also that gives more than 2hrs use. I could probably fit a few terabytes worth of HDDs and a slimline external DVD burner and monitoring system along with some extra USB ports...eliminated ones of cause in there as well.

Shite!! better take me medicine before im in overclockers rehab again. :rolf:

Hi Maka,
I think the best thing is to start from scratch.
Then add parts one by one and see whats working.

If your successfully booted into the system then go into safe mode and turn the system back in time.
Every time i install someting i create restore points so if i do have a conflict or just something is not working i know who is the culprit. :)

As you know its hard to say what is wrong as it can be lot of things.

I am member of this forum for last 8 years:

http://www.antionline.com/

Don't waste too much time banging your head.Go to the Hardware section and explain your problem.
Make sure you have all parts and brand names of every part (including Bios details ) as that helps to get answers quickly.
You will be running it in no time.
Guys are very helpful. I might even add few suggestions but not here.I will not identify myself on the forum as i prefer to stay on the dark side (in the shade)

Like that red little TT sign.
I build my game pc (still have it). This was in 2003:

Thermaltake case, main cpu big termaltake fan with 3 control speed and another 6 fans front and back of the case.
Use to have another 7 pc connected in LAN in the garage for harware firewall and for mucking around -learning purposes.
I have screw the main pc at least 6-7 times pushing it to the limit.
When i was on pc (a lot and lot of hours playing games ) had a headphones and i was in my own world.

Few years later nothing changed.

I still have a headphones and i am in my own world.Only Difference now is i just try to pick up that sweet yellow sound walking around in the bush :)

Thing to do now Makaw, is load mac os on it,(snow leopard or lion) dual boot it with windoze if you must.
Ai least you will have something that works while you shag around getting windoze to work.
Well, until a microsoft update stuffs it up again. affraid

Finally running sweet. It was a faulty HDD straight out of the box, with an intermittent problem.
Got a video of me fixing it.... below...
