I gotta ask a dumb question.  what long weekend  Very Happy
Next Monday is a working day (for some people  Razz ) and Tuesday is the Public Holiday
I was thinking of  doing a quick trip to some pending ground but not sure about the weather for the area I was going too.

Hey Jase I think your right, half hour stints during the course of the day leaves heaps of scope for consuming the amber liquid.
Good luck guys with the weather and gold.

I'm only taking one Carton on this trip

Have been hitting it hard all the festive season so need to give the body a break

I have allot of work to get done this trip so no beer till 5 pm

I know it will be hard to do that but with a limit of beer I can't afford to drink all day or I will be dry for 3 days HAHAHA

Thanks mate .. i didn't get to cue got as far as P/Find. NE 39kay from P/Find checking out a few old mines . Think i cooked the motor in the ute when i left P/F so headed home and just made it back . I smelt something as i was driving and then a big bang and rattle so i pulled over and found the radiator cap had blown off . Temp gauge was normal on the dash but must of been a faulty sender . Its a 1999 tf rodeo 2.8 td it has gas fitted for more oomph. I suspect the head gasket is the main culprit.

Sorry to hear that stalker,at least you made it back home .I suppose if something like that is to happen its better happening on a short planned trip rather than a long one.At least you will be ready for the main season now.

Common for temp guage to be ok and the motor gets cooked. Temp gauges don't work when the water level gets low so you carry on without knowing it is about to die.
There was a thread a while ago on one of the forums about coolant level sensors which would perhaps have helped.
Those 2.8 motors are famous for problems with the hoses that go to the turbo assuming it is a turbo model.

i have fitted a single gage to monitor both the auto temp and water temp, just run the sender unit to a two way switch one receives the auto sender unit wire the other receives the water temp wire the centre terminal goes to the gage. just flip the switch and you can see both temps accurately (as good as the gage is) I wouldn't trust the idiot light or factory gage when it comes to temps or oil pressure for that matter.

Thanks for the reply's.

Spot on dozer ... its a 1999 4x4 rodeo turbo 2.8 diesel on gas . These motors are good until the bolt ons fail or the head gasket fails and pressurized the radiator pumping out the water .

The head gasket was the problem combined with the faulty temp gauge .  Now its a full rebuild job or get a second hand motor .
Im kind off bummed out now it was a good cheap to run off road 4x4 with auto lokka and lift kit .
Back to the shed i guess and work on the valiant .

This will be the third time I've done it with a new head and turbo being the last time i did it . I think I'll just stick to the valiant and get it ready to sell and buy a v8 76 cruiser ... im over the rodeo now .
