Gpx5000. Setting for salt
Can anybody assist me. Joan wants to use her Gpx5000 on salt lake using an Anti-inference disc. Can anybody suggest what setting she should use on the GPX5000. Cheers. Bob

From what I have read;
You run a Coiltek Ai coil as if running a normal DD coil. There is only one main thing you can do wrong and that is RUNNING THE MACHINE NOT SET IN DD mode...
Search Mode - General
Soil Timings - Normal (or Special)
Coil Type - DD
GB - Fixed
Volume Limit: 14 Speaker (12 Headphones)
GB Type - General
Soil Timing - Special / Sens Extra
Manual Tune - 106 (or whats quietest for atmospheric noise)
Motion - Slow
Rx Gain: 13
Audio Type: Normal (select 'Quiet' if Swing Motion makes too much Ground generated noise)
Audio Tone: 63
Stabilizer: 8
Signal Peak: 19
Target Volume: 12 Speaker (8 Headphones)
Response: Normal
Tracking Speed - Slow
Iron Reject - Off
Good Luck, Bob & Jen
Cheers

Thanks for advice NG. Joan cannot wait to try it out and appreciates your input. It will be a while before she tries it out as she has had shoulder surgery but it is giving her time to research etc.. Will advise outcome. Cheers Bob

Re: Gpx5000. Setting for salt
Pretty much spot on there NuggieDreamer , but there are a couple of mistakes. Where you say normal or special in the soil timings, it should definatey be Normal not special. Then you say sensitive extra in the next soil timings section, this will not work. Once you select normal on the front switch changing the menu to sensitive extra does nothing, that setting only works when the front switch is on special, which does not work on salt.
Basically you set the front switch to Normal and the coil switch to DD then thats it.

Thanks TG, the more advice the better. Really appreciate all your input and will try and put it to profitable gain. Cheers Joan

Thanks mate, so does that also mean there is no point trying a switchable Timing from Normal on the fly to Special/Salt Gold as a shallower more filtered option for a Coiltek Ai coil too, for them to try?
Cheers

Brendon - They may help you with a good starting point. But salt lake detecting is noisy from what I have been told. It's just how long you can handle the ground noise after you try to balance out the machine, salt in the eyes, dry mouth and glare from the sun while digging dry mud...
If your using a DD coil on a Salt Lake, then they say to switch Coil Rx to Cancel and Soil Timing Switch to Cancel and away you go.
The Coiltek Ai Coil is a figure 8 wound Mono, but as I now have been told works best in Normal Timings and Coil Rx must be switched to DD.
Even though Enhance is the go to Soil Timing on a 4500, it may be too shallow for Salt Lake Mud, as Normal (even though is noisier), punches deeper.
Cheers,
ND.

Hi ND, There is no need to try running a more filtered timing, the AI coil will run dead quiet on the salt in Normal. Its that quiet I turn the treshhold up and wave my pick over it occasionaly to make sure the detector is on
Dont bother with a DD on cancel , you will miss lots of gold and the noise will still drive you mad. AI coil is the only way to go.
