Hi all, just a quick question, can i power up my 5k without the coil connected to change
my settings in custom. I cant find any mention of it in the manual but don't want to fry
something if i shouldn't be doing so .One of you learned folk should be able to tell me.
cheers ron.. whgirt

hi ron, from what I have read it is not a good idea to turn on the machine without the coil connected. im not 100% on that but i read somewhere it can feed back and fry the circuits

I'm not sure on that either, but like most things make sure all is connected before switching on... better to be safe than sorry out in the bush, be a wasted trip frying the detector out there...

i have done it and never had a problem, i am sure that a similar post a while back JP said it is ok but not really reccommended. just never unplug the coil with machine running.

Iv used my 4500 in house for viewing the settings many times without a coil connected, BUT, the coil plug is removed before the detector is turned on.
Its connecting and disconnecting the coil plug while its turned on that could cause you to let the smoke out.

Just lay the coil flat on the floor and do your checking & settings, if the coil doesn't move there is no annoying sound.
Threshold turned down of course.
