Re: Last trip out
Some good advice there, Albo. The one I like is Stanley “Tawny”. This time of the year it’s nice chilled and served with an ice block.
A while back I bought a cask from First Choice and the girl on the checkout (a lovely young lady) said that she also enjoyed drinking Tawny.
There you go, I thought, it’s not just a drink for old winos!

Re: Last trip out
Nah. Never occurred to me. I might have slipped up there. Anyway, she probably already had a grandfather.

Re: Last trip out
All right I have to come clean there where 3 of us ...
and we always take 1 bottle of Port (brown bros normally) cos I buy it..
Which generally leads to the worst days detecting on the whole trip..
P.s we did get some gold ...nearly covered costs;

Re: Last trip out
Where were we , um port Pebbles , after 1 pannikin of any port , the next one is great .
I once worked with this fitter that ran card nights 1 day a week & all sorts of the social fabric would go , a closed mining town ,all sorts , engineers , bosses of varieties etc & near the end of the session he would bring out a bottle of primo port , they all commented how good it was etc , great .
He confessed the next day he kept the empty bottle of the primo port he drank ages ago & just filled it each time with the $15 Morris cask & no one could tell the difference .

Re: Last trip out
Had a couple of memorable trips back in the early days when the Groundhog was king. On our way to Leonora we would swing by Jadran Wines in the Swan Valley and pick up a 20 litre plastic container of medium dry sherry.
This particular night, one of the mates said something like
“I’m sick of drinking this shite, I’m off to bed”.
With that, he threw about half a tin mug of medium dry onto the fire.
Whoosh! A blue flame shot at least 15 feet in the air. We all pretty well schit ourselves and a couple of the blokes fell out of their chairs laughing. That stuff was like rocket fuel. No wonder that some days you would wake up and wonder if you were still on the planet!
Thank goodness we’ve mellowed a lot since then.

Re: Last trip out
No worries Albo
There can be many a story told after some of the trips ,only wish I,d kept a diary.
They,d make good reading.as do the ones above .They should have a old stories page for the old farts.
