Christmas Eve Gold
Hi
I just couldnt wait any longer, it was driving me nuts not goin for a swing so at 3am early Xmas eve
my battery was charged, 6 litres of frozen water, car fueled and i headed off to sthn x for a swing.
I knew it was gonna be 40c later in the day so i figured i'd get there by 6.30am and be swinging 10 minutes
later all going well, and as things went all did go very well indeed.
After the quick run out from the Cross to my spot, on went the gear (GPX5000/11" Commander Mono)
but geez the sun already had some poke in it as i guzzled down the first 2 litres of water before heading
out for a scratch in the dirt.
It didnt take long before that first yummy sweet mellow sound that had to be gold came through my shoulder
speaker, and so it was, at 4" down the 1st bit of xmas eve gold saw the light, nothing big mind you as
this spot so far hasnt given me anything over 14.9 grams so far.
Bloody hell the sun had some sting in it, and i was wiping the sweat from the eyes by 8am and it already
fealt 32 ish, anyway more water and more gold was the order of the day.
the night before i had this crazy thought of rubbing the first nugget i found next on my DWAG cap badge for
good luck, and thats what i did, and mannnn it worked a treat, the small nuggets just kept on popping up
all over areas i'd already been over with the same set up, but today i was running some more extreme settings.

By 12pm it was as hot as a barsterd so i pulled the pin and headed back home, the morning was a good session
with 15 small bits in the can for 5.1 Grams, and some red dirt on the skin Ahhhhhh that fixed the fever for a while..
When i got home a mate who runs a 4500 called through and asked "should i trade the 45 up now or wait
until the next tecta comes out pete" i didnt wanna sh#t him totally to tears so i didnt show him the gold i had
just found that day, but i did tell him yet again, "that golds not gonna be there long roy with the 5000 around"
and blokes like me who get severe fever in the middle of summer...

Hi Pete,
Was waiting for the story and photos as i knew you are off to detecting.
Great efforts and nice nuggets there
I like the picture with forum badge.I think looks better then 5 cents.
Very good effort considering heat and hot weather day.
Good way to send the old year out with few nuggets.
I was thinking he same as many suggested to wait for a new detector.
Why when you can get it anyway once it come out :)
Cheers

Re: Christmas Eve Gold
(another) Great post Pete.
I like the max'ed-out settings.
It seems funny to imagine you freezing up 6 liters of water to combat the heat
when, on the day I got out this week, it was 29F with a thirty mph wind, brrrrrr.
Hope your Holidays continue to be happy, best to Kim (sp?) too.

Re: Christmas Eve Gold
Good job ol' fella.
I thought you had to be at least 0.75% alcohol before you went out
See what happens when you're a good boy?
I bet you made up for it when you got home didn't you?

Re: Christmas Eve Gold
Made up for it alright, even though i'd drunk 6 litres of water and a 2 ltr soft drink on the way home i
was still dehydrated, the old belly was sloshing around like a water barrel.
Next time i'll be taking a bottle of Staminade.

Re: Christmas Eve Gold
Hey, nice find pete - never let it be said that an area is 'flogged' - always seems to turn up more gold. I'm sure it moves around and just waits for someone who is 'in the zone' to come along....nice Chrissie pressie anyways....
