Camping at Niagra Dam
Can anyone tell me what it is like at Niagra dam these days for camping. Havent been there for nearly 20 years and some of us are going ( 3 vehicles ) there in August for about a week as a base and I am wondering if there will be room or will the nomads have taken over??
Cheers

Re: Camping at Niagra Dam
G'day Dirtfisher, We have stayed there a few times in the last few years, It will have certainly changed since you were there 20 years ago. Now has toilets, Firepits & rubishbins all looked after by the council. Great spot & plenty of area to camp in, You cant go wrong, Yabbies to be had from the Dam wall, Gold to be found not too far away. What more can you ask for.
Cheers

Great news Ashley, thanks for that.
Really does sound like it has changed, 20 years ago there was only yabbies, glad to hear they are still there.

Re: Camping at Niagra Dam
Just a gentle hint.
Best camp spot on top overlooking the dam (sunrise, flocks of Fairy Martins etc.) but if a wind (read GALE) gets up in the middle of the night like it has done to us twice batten down the hatches.
Next time we will be down the bottom!

Re: Camping at Niagra Dam
A couple of good spots to camp are Lake Douglas, just 10 ks sth of Kal, also one of my favourite spots is Malcome dam, about 12ks east of Leonora heading towards Laverton, here you often see pelicans and emus coming in for a drink, as soon as you see the dam turn right and camp, dont camp on the dam wall. Stu
ps; dont drive to the edge of the water or you will get bogged.

I haven't been there in nearly 20 years meself but I did camp on this side of the wall. I fell into the little trickle creek one freezing night, came out with 1 yabbie and covered in mud
That yabbie tasted good

Yes great spot. The shire have just done up the road once again as it is sealed for a few 100mtr's then a good graded road down into Niagra camping area.
The shire of Menzies have spent more money than one would have expected them to have received from their rate payers. They ripped up a perfect footpath in town laid not that long ago to have it relayed in a different product. Madness
Never mind Niagra is a great spot and yes many visitors using the good facilities. Cheers Captain
