Have a read of this, I'm going to try the B&Z with a 5watt speaker.

I've never owned a 3000 but with the 4500 and 5000 there is a marked difference in the audio quality if you use better quality speakers or headphones, not the cheap and nasty ones that most detector shops carry. You can always try a booster down the track, but I would be wary of buying a booster that is wired for one particular speaker.
Boosters amplify ALL sounds not just the target.
Just my 2cents worth, or is that $220.00 worth.

Yeah prices are just bloody ridiculous just for an inline mini amp.
BB - I used to run a Coiltek Mini Booster on all my SD and GP's, cheapest on the market
and also the toughest, no plastic case here, solid cast aluminium with one knob to boost volume.
They run off your detectors battery so there's also no expensive 9v battery to let you down.
These boosters just run inline on your power lead and you plug your speaker or h/phone into
the usual socket on the battery.
$150.00
If ya do get one make sure you ask for the SD/GP one as they also come with a GPX 5 pin plugged
version..
