Best Books Empty Best Books

Post by Bonefisher Tue 04 Dec 2012, 1:11 am

Hi Folks.

Trying to learn as much as I can from this forum, magazines and the like but could someone tell me what might be some top books to learn from.

Particularly interested in the WA goldfields, where, when and the like and also just some general books on using a detector properly to get the best out of it.

I realise that practice and getting out in the field is the best policy, but anything that would help would be great as I'm a while away from getting back to OZ and want to prepare myself as much as possible.

Cheers Boney.

g'day bony and welcome 2 the forum mate.
gold and ghost vol 1&2 are the best going round but there was a set in the paper last week for $2500 which is out off control. usually $600-$1k for a good set s/hand. not available new anymore.
i enjoyed prospecting the murchinson which would be up your ally mate, gives you locations and technique and equipment advice etc and was only $60 and was the 1st book i purchased to try and help me out before my 1st trip.
good luck and good reading bony.

Hey Boney

gold and ghosts 1 & 2 are good start for spots in wa if ya can get your hands on em IMHO the fact there aint to many around makes the info in them of more value. most of the historical data in G&G is also avalible on TROVE website with a bit of looking.
you can do alot worse than sitting down with a warm beer and digesting all the info pete and others have put into this section, https://detectingwestaustral.forumotion.com/f18-geology-mapping-wa-laws-20a-permit-info
regarding setup and running your detector Johnathan Porters DVDs are a real good start depending on what machine you are running?

cheers Tom

I can fully recommend "Mates & Gold" great read of the actual prospectors diary on the Leo/Redcastle area.

http://www.reedsprospecting.com.au/shop/detail/mates-and-gold/

Also for a beginner, a great book is Doug Stones "Metal detecting for gold in Aus". just dont trust the mud-maps in there, they are out a bit and the areas have been flogged since 78 but its still a great reference book for beginners.

This one is also a beauty, it leads you to some good alluvial.

There are also plenty of E-Books online dealing with prospecting and they're free.

Bit of info, could be gold closer than you think to Exmouth

Many thanks Jase.

I've read a few excerpts from Gold and Ghosts and seems like a great read mate, so when finances allow I may well buy a copy if they are around.

Thanks for the advice Jase, appreciated mate.

Hi Tom.

Loads of advice there Tom and should be far better equipped once I have had a look. Second person to recommend G&G so will definitely be getting hold of a copy.

As for the link mate, been reading as much as possible on there and have learnt heaps so far, peeps with experience always the way to go as I have learnt with fishing, always ask those who have done it and far more importantly 'locals'.

Cheers Boney.
