two mates of mine are both wearing cut off gum boots--at the ankle--discard the shoe-- and they slip there foot into the upper parts thus protecting there shins and jeans from the prickin effects and after shocks of those small pricks that break off and stay imbedded in ya jeans.

the only side effect is ya feet sweat a lot..but what the heck--no pricks attackin ya when u r away in lar lar land tecting..the snakes will break their teeth trying to make love to ya ankles--not that there are any snakes around this time of the year out in the desert..

Hi Ray ,I tried the cut off gumbies & found them heavy & sweaty after a while also. The best gaitors i use were found at the newman tip... An old leather boiler makers jacket & cut the arms off, work a treat , cool & light. albo.

Matelot, unfortunately that form of spiny removal is deemed as ARSON unless u have a permit
not to mention the prison term they give u just to be sure..

The trouble is when idiots drop a match they never take in the consequences--people do camp out in the bush in places were you dont see them and some tracks are one way in and the same way out..

If some of these station blokes catch up with anyone lighting fires and destroying the ability to earn a living then I know they dish out there own form of restitution..

be carefull

Sure way to take the worry out of Spinny Spikes, just dive head first into the shit.
After that, the last thing you will be worried about will be a few strays in your strides.

Understand what your saying about fires particularly in the east pilbara Ray, but iv been camped up & the mustering choppers come through & fire bomb creek lines to flush out the cattle also. Wasnt bothered it did well for me. But yes big fines &jail apply to them or anyone nowadays.albo.

u usually find that station owners apply for permits to burn -- that covers there ass..
and yes they usually burn behind the cattle--thats why they dont want people on there when they muster.
