rock spots / by-catch
not sure if these are like gold spots - tightly kept secrets but was wondering if people want to post up some places in the wa goldfields that we can stop by and dig some cool rocks gems etc?

Re: rock spots / by-catch
If you don't mind a little life threatening hazard the prettiest rocks we've found this trip have been the blue asbestos in Wittenoom. The iron stone rocks have bright bule bands of asbestos that really catch the eye. There are ample lovely camping spots there by crystal clear running water. Just follow through town straight up Whitenoom Gorge.

Re: rock spots / by-catch
G'day kiwi,
Just got back from a few weeks out so sorry I missed this one while it was on the go. Not sure what area you work in but I see some of the boys spend time around Warriedar so I'll start there as I know the area well from when we lived in PJ. There is a really nice jasper found in the hills to the west of the fields find to paynes road rd if you take one of the tracks a few km after you cross the lake heading back to paynes you should find it it was mined there in the 80's and is high on a hill. If you feel like a walk the island you can see when you head west along the track from fields to the home stead has heaps of black tormaline. There nice quarts crystals in an area called the moonscape. Hope these give you a few ideas. If there a particular area your interested in let me know and I'll try and help out.
Waypoint.

Yeah mate top 3 for Wa if you talking about for lapidary use would be zebra stone from around Kununurra. Mookaite from Byro station. And Amethysts from Gascoyne junction. If it precious gems your after then it Diamonds in many places up north. Then Poona for emeralds and then coloured tourmaline from around Mukinbudin.

Williams opal mine is located 4.8 kilometres north north-east of Coolgardie.
Chrysoprase Mine 28°19.186
120°58.985
If you head out that way you may as well have a look at the natural wonder of Marshall's Pool.

Sandra found this fabulous looking rock while I was swinging the ATX at Salgash. Unfortunately it didn't contain any gold but i'm sure I'll find it under one of the beds when we unpack.
