Re: Laverton - ant infestation
looks like plenty of talc powder needed this season.
cliff showed me how it worked well on ants by spreading around the legs of tables etc.
anyone else use this method successfully?

Martin , best method ever , cheap baby powder round the base of the table legs & they cant get traction , works .
Seen many ol skool prospector camps & they put water filled backy tins under each leg of the table & make a moat , still you get the ant champ Olympians that cross the channel .
baby powder is the best ,O YEA .

Re: Laverton - ant infestation
watched cliff spread it around when we went out in December, the ants cleared out within minutes, got to re apply depending on the wind. put it around car wheels as well. nothing worse than ants in the bed and with todays electronics in vehicles, you could find yourself knacked in a big way.

Re: Laverton - ant infestation
depending on how bad they are, I spread it around chairs, tents and anything else the little buggers will get into.
around car tyres is a good idea, I've seen the little sods make a home in the rear door of a 4x4. I think that lot went home to Wanneroo with the vehicle owner
maybe a can of surface spray is a good idea to take out with ya's, the type with the small tube extension and ya can spray it into places like inside door panels.

Re: Laverton - ant infestation
Tough Ants were a mining electricians nightmare at Telfer.
Ive seen wooden cable drums eaten before we rolled out the cable on them.
Ive even seen steel wired armoured cable buried direct underground and still get attacked!
...Ended up having to run cable in steel conduit when having to bury runs between installations.

Thanks for the info on ants all - we are around Laverton way in April and will take surface spray and talc. Son is a pest exterm. and is going to mix up some stuff to have with us.

Same here, heading up that way towards end of April.Nothing like knowing about a problem you might encounter before hand.Would not take long for a town like Laverton to run out of ant repellant.

Re: Laverton - ant infestation
the other good idea like albo says, put the table legs in tins of water. cut down beer cans will do providing your table has legs that will fit in them.
or talc powder mixed with ant powder but talc does the trick for me. the buggers don't like it.

Re: Laverton - ant infestation
seems to be the go Sandgroper, i have seen ants bridge water in no time flat, they dont care if they drown just as long as they get across, the talc worked immediately, they couldnt get out of there fast enough. turns the wolf spiders a ghostly white at night.
