Caravan parks in / near Kal
G'day All ,
Hope everyone has a successful 2013
Very warm everywhere at the moment !
Looking at heading to Kal in the next few months.
Interested in others recommendations on which park to stay at
in or around Kal ?
Or where not to stay ....)

Re: Caravan parks in / near Kal
I have heard the Prospector is a bit of a sh*t hole now, don't know if it's true as I haven't stayed there for some years. the Park in South Boulder is the discovery on Lane Street a bit south of the old Broken Hill Hotel. Stayed there a few times years ago but I don't know what it's like now.

We also stayed 2 nights at the Discovery Park and quite happy with it.
Mind you it was the only van park we stopped at during our 4 months in WA so cant make any comparisons.

We have also stayed here, it is meant to 24 hours only and for self contained vehicles but we have stayed there for three nights and know of others that have stayed longer, good toilets no showers but close to town and usually enough people around to keep an eye on things.snapper wrote:Try the war memorial park about 1k sth of town, it has toilets and its free, when visiting Kal i always stay there Stu

Dont think it will be the council that stuffs it up.
Just had a few months driving round se Aus.
Quite a bit council supported free camping.
Specially Tas. Should be more of it here then
the travellers have more money to spend in other
businesses round town.

Re: Caravan parks in / near Kal
Well i have stayed in pretty much all of them in the past year & my pick for the best park in Kal is the Prospector caravan park located just down the main road in Kal.
Also the Boulder park is good but i prefer Kal, although its really only minutes difference driving to most places from either park but the prospector is closer to downtown Kal...a little bit of a walk to get to the main street shops but doable if you dont mind a bit of a walk.
There is another park even further down the main strip past the prospector, this park is fairly dingy & not close to the shops but is cheap. The first two places are prob the most expensive in regards to accomodation but have things like a POOL! if its hot & seeing the weather lately on the news over here in the USA a pool is prob a must have for eastern staters
If you do have a dog though make sure you ring the prospector first, they have rules regarding dogs and noise...i think you can have a small dog but it must remain on leash at all times etc but check first & if your loud and obnoxious be aware you will be asked to be quite after 9 or 10pm and if you keep it up the management will kick you out
For me though i prefer a place that has rules and doesnt let people run a muck annoying everyone else
Be aware though that all caravan parks in Kal and Boulder have a high % of things being stolen from guests, if its isnt bolted down and locked up then it will be taken, from bikes to gas bottles & any other thing that you can walk away with...including detectors! i know a prospector who was living at the prospector who had all his detetcing equipment stolen from the back of his 4B during the night...smashed the window or something...and this guy was an ex cop, built like a brick shithouse & lived there! So just know in advance to keep your stuff locked up and out of sight...common sense for most but for some people it doesnt sink in....i saw many of these people during my stays at caravan parks in WA wondering around in the morning looking for there push bikes etc p*ssed off with no recourse....its christmas time for the locals when the tourists come to town!

Re: Caravan parks in / near Kal
Why do you camp in the town and not in the goldfield ??
Cost big money to be in a van park and no gold there...
maybe some guys are girls and scared of the wilds ?

Re: Caravan parks in / near Kal
no not scared of the wild (ex army SF) my wife is just a sickly little thing and having a hot shower & TV reception keeps her happy. We get out every couple of weeks for a few days to a week so its not all caravan parks & champagne but having a hot shower & TV reception keeps the wife happy (happy wife happy life)so we always end up coming back
I have found a decent amount of gold extremelly close to towns all over WA & even a couple of nice patches last season so until the easy gold runs out i dont see a reason to hike for days into the scrub although i also havnt found 20-30oz's in a season so maybe im doing it all wrong lol
