Filipino workers eye Goldfields stint

Recruiting firm Mining People International is in the process of applying for visas for Philippines workers to move to the Goldfields.

With the demand for skilled labour showing no signs of slowing down, MPI said it had set up a new Philippines office in Manila after recently being granted an on-hire agreement by the Federal Government.

MPI head of international recruitment Greg Holmsen said Filipino workers were generally well respected for their strong English skills, relevant certifications and strong work ethic.

“With the mining industry showing continued strong growth, companies face significant skills shortages, particularly in trades and engineering,” Mr Holmsen said. “Bringing in temporary skilled labour is an effective strategy to combat this frustration.”
This arrangement relies on temporary business long-stay visas – known as 457 visas – which allow for skilled international workers to be sponsored to work in Australia. Suitable candidates can start in just two to three months.
