Re: mountain goat trommel
I have looked at the mountain goat trommel in the past.
I do notice that the video shows him dumping sand through it....that will go a lot faster then regular rocks and dirt.
I built one for around 250 US. dollars.
If your half way handy you can make one.
It works fantastic.
I run a 5 gallon bucket in 7-10 minutes. Thats cleaning grass and twigs out of the spray bar also.
Nice to relax that night and run stuff you sucked up from the day out of the bedrock.
Ive sinced changed out the riffles for a matt made by GOLD HOG and some expanded metal on top of it. Catches the really fine stuff and pickers.
Belive me....it doesnt look this nice anymore!
Enjoy.

Re: mountain goat trommel
thats a really nice setup oldies,
love the color scheme and the silver lady on top?
you put some effort into that for sure, looks pro. does it catch the really fine flour gold? have you ever put much clay soil through it or does that choke it up?
cheers

Tks for the kind comments...
No better match then Chrome and Black!
The lady was a hood ornament I replated and threw on top just for pics :)
Yes, it does catch the fine gold very well.
Once I switched over to the mat from GOLD HOG it really made a difference.
Ive had it packed with black sand and still caught the flour.
I have run some clay material through it from Rich Hill/Arizona and had to re-run it to break the clay down. Once I figured that out, I just soaked the buckets of clay untill they were nice and soft, then once they hit the trommel/sluice they broke down nicely.

Its really not that hard...
First....build the barrel. Then build everything else to fit around it.
I got some jacked up plans to do this one and finally threw them out and just winged it on the build.
The bearings for the barrel are just inline skate wheels I got from the thrift store.
The gears and sprokets are from electric scooters.
The motor is a windshield wiper moter out of any old car.
