Think about this carefully
Yep, I've had to much to drink today but it's my day to think about things. it was a time to remember the good and the bad. A time to remember the past and what the future will bring.
So here's a little bit from Omar Kyyam. I can hear you asking now, "who the hell is he". He's an ancient poet and spoke a lot of truth. So here is verse 34
"Then to the earthen bowl did I adjourn
My lip the secret well of life to learn
And lip to lip it murmured,
while you live, drink
For once dead, you never shall return"
Think about it. Life is just too bloody short to worry about petty little issues and I thank the 4 winds for inventing beer
Cheers and hope you all had a good day

The Rubiat of Omar Kayyam
How refreshing to find such culture on the forum. I kinda like these verses from Poem 162 of the Rubiat of Omar Kyayyam.
Dreaming when Dawn's Left Hand was in the Sky
I heard a Voice within the Tavern cry,
"Awake, my Little ones, and fill the Cup
"Before Life's Liquor in its Cup be dry."
And, as the Cock crew, those who stood before
The Tavern shouted--"Open then the Door!
"You know how little while we have to stay,
"And, once departed, may return no more."
Come, fill the Cup, and in the Fire of Spring
The Winter Garment of Repentance fling:
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To fly---and Lo! the Bird is on the Wing.

I'm guilty of saying things that I regret or should I say, sometimes I regret what I say. Naaaah, you have to be brave and say it, so here's some more of Omar
"the moving finger writes, and having writ moves on
nor all thy piety nor wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a line
Nor all thy tears wash out a word of it"

Silent words from unseen lips
coursing through my finger-tips.
Leaden line on paper flows
between the lines the message glows.
The lotus gives the mountain pool
a single, sunlit, dewdrop jewel.

I should put up a pic of myself this morning but I'm not that brave. I've got a hang over that would kill a horse and ANZAC day is banned from this forum until next year :rolf:

Re: Think about this carefully
Aha, so that is what it was all about.
Jeeez, BN, I thought that was what a normal day is all about.
Now when one speaks of drink, I am a trifle wary about saying this but there is 60l. of pretty rough red stashed under the van bed, brought all the way over from the East to combat that dreadful drouth and price situation which exists in the top NW corner of the state.
As a Nasho who did the 3 months stint in '58 yesterday I had my own quiet rememberence, particularly of my grandfather who did survive WW1, one of natures gentlemen who passed away at 98yrs.

Looks like we are both lucky Robert. My number was drawn in 1972. 19yrs old, young and dumb (now just old and stupid) and I was kinder lookin forward to a bit of adventure. Passed the medical and starting thinking to myself, I'm f**ked.
When I think back on it, all I can say is, thank god for Gough Whitlam and a federal election.

"Looking forward to a bit of adventure"
ARE YOU NUTS MAN!!![/size]
I don't rate being shot or tortured as a bit of adventure.
Yeah, it's good we're here to talk about it. A couple of my schoolmates aren't

Sometimes I get really pissed off and this is one of them, hence my reply. But I thank the 4 winds for this forum, coz we have free speach without attacking the poster. At least that's what I thought.
2 good friends of mine, 1 was regular army, the other a nasho. I've heard their stories.
I also had the fortunate or unfortnate opportunity (depending on ya point of view) of working at Hollywood Repat Hospital WA many years ago. I've seen first hand the folly of what we call "war".
I've seen the psychological and physical damage done to people, it's not pretty. I've seen what the substance called "agent orange" has done to a human body and it's not something I want to see again.
As I said, I was "young and dumb". Am I any wiser being older ? probably not, I've reacted to this subject in a cantakerous manner.

Re: Think about this carefully
I went to school with some real hard cases. One in particular I'll never forget.
Roger Sharpe was a guy who was always in trouble in the third and fourth forms.
Quite a few years later I found out he was the youngest captain in Vietnam.
You never can tell.
I don't know whether he survived or not but knowing his animal cunning it's a fair bet he did.
My brother-in-law whom I have known for 32 years was a "nattio". In all that time I have never heard he utter a word about his service. He retained his sanity thank goodness. Not sure about his sister though...
