been using at a ratio of 1/200 for over a year now. very happy with the result.

Re: 2 stroke oil in diesel
I haven't kept up to date with diesel engines in passenger vehicles.
So is it true the sulphur content has been reduced or virtually non existent in todays diesel fuel.
So how does it affect older vehicles with diesel motor's.

Re: 2 stroke oil in diesel
Been using it for years, 2T Castrol/2 stroke.
300mils in sub, 400mils in main tank every second fill, this is less than recommended, however, considering every time you start a Nissan a small amount is always automatically transferred from the sub tank. The engine runs on fuel from the main tank only, I thought this would counteract the lesser amount.

Re: 2 stroke oil in diesel
i have read about this a while ago and have been using two stoke oil for a over a year, our diesel is lacking sulphur due to emissions standards. never had any issues and a quieter motor. i have noticed a slight improvement in fuel economy and recommend a few hundred mills in every tank. mitsubishi make their own additive sold at the dealers for a ripoff price and always recommend adding it to each tank, its just two stroke oil but at the end of the day its up to you.

Re: 2 stroke oil in diesel
Not only less sulphur Cliff, since the euro emission standards changed a number of years back, all diesel engines now come from the factory to meet strict Euro standards (harder than ours) run exhaust gas returns and are under injected to run lean as possible without overheating well as choked with a catalytic converter up an undersized exhaust.
That's why everyone is chipping the ECU's to boost fuel rail pressure, restricting the EGR to keep the ECU sensors happy and buying cat-less (illegal for road use) and corrected size exhausts to let their engines breathe again.
Adding 2 stroke oil would also increase the octane rating of the diesel under load (where more knock is experienced) would then run cooler as well as lubing the moving parts in the fuel system. Putting a prefilter on the fuel line filter water separator wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Re: 2 stroke oil in diesel
I read a very comprehensive study done on adding 2-stroke oil to diesel. It's the best testing done to date and a very interesting read:

1/200 (75 ltrs diesel / 375 ml 2 stroke)
MINERAL OIL ONLY, not synthetic. Generally if it doesn't say synthetic then it is usually mineral.
cheap brands are ok.

Axe that test is an awful lot of reading for this time of night . I've never heard of using 2-stroke but we've used Dextron as a cleaner.
When I did the tech training at AmGeneral in the US in about 1997 the technician there recommended a pint Dextron lll (auto trans oil) in the tank to clean the injectors and decarb the engine. I never used it on the Hummers but made it common practice in the workshop for treatment of injection problems on petrol engines. Unlike over the counter treatments in burns clean, no smoke even when introduced to the intake via a vacuum hose on the intake. We've successfully improved the running of many petrol engines over the years by just adding about 400ml to the tank when it was low and advising the vehicle owner to fill the tank within the next 50km or so.

According to the link provided by Axe [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] it's not a good thing in modern diesel engines.Bignuggs wrote:Here's something interesting. Anyone tried it ?
