5000 vs the 2300 Empty 5000 vs the 2300

well the 2300 has been out long enuff now for people to make a decision. so here's my question.
seems most people have a 5000 (not all) but they also have a 2300.
so when it comes down to it, are you using the 5000 or the 2300 the most. and why ?
is it better to have both or just one of them ?
Take into consideration price, we aren't all rich to be able to afford both.
if you had to buy a detector for WA, which one would you buy ? and why ?

i haven't had them long enough Cliff to give a fair call but i have tended towards the 5k when in unknown ground but i like to run the 2300 over the ground to see what i missed but like using the 2300 on old scrapings. so far i have only a few hundred meters that i have gridded using both machines and both found gold on the strip. as for buying one i guess it depends on what you want to do, if its going to be a weekend trip once or twice a year then a 2300 is fine but if your going to hit it hard I would recommend the 5k.

The 23 has been my primary detector for the last 4 months and is proving itself as one hell of an awesome gold finder.Others on gold forums are complaining about weight, ergonomics etc..but if you get out there and swing the thing you will find gold. The 5000 is still a good machine because of its versatility but lacks performance when chasing the gold in species and the small disseminated gold that can lead to a nice run of gold.Winter months can not come quick enough. The 23 is a turn on and go machine just have to slow your swing speed and listen for the subtle changes when chasing deep stuff, shallow bits just about trip it out.Just my opinion but each to their own.Love it and minelab will need to come up with a world beater if they think they will match a 5000 and 23 combo.

Yep I seam to find the 2300 is the go to machine as well 5000 only gets run if I'm working some deep ground or off on a mission to find new ground and want the extra ground coverage offered with a bigger coil.
2300 has been working in well with my dry blowing as It picks up the small stuff it shows me where the edge of the run is, and once you have taken the top off run it back over the bedrock check if I need to go deeper and to pick up the stray nuggets at the same time

Let me see if I have this correct.
the 2300 is the preferred machine Yes or No ?
but if you are detecting deep ground then go the 5000.
take into consideration the area of the WA goldfields you are in, and a lot is hard ground, do you still say the 2300 is the go machine.
It appears you need the combo but the 2300 is winning.
So the answer is, what Machine do you spend your money on ?

Cliff, I would go the 2300 as the first one and then ideally have a 4500 or 5000 with it later on
Most of the known areas have had the flagship over it, so the 2300 is ideal for picking up the scraps haha!
I agree with Tom's strategy, without a doubt!

5000 vs the 2300 Empty sorry

heres my 2bobs worth I would stick with the 5 have worked with a bloke with the 2300 and I watched him chain an area then I went over it with my mate the 5 and picked up bits just as small as what he found , he then went over it with his 5 to no avail but on comparing his settings to mine there was a vast difference so I think if you can master the settings on your 5 you don't need to buy the 2300 and save your money for the 7000????? Laughing
