There's an interesting write up in the lastest edition of the 4wdaction mag no:228
They had 6 makes of fridges tested.
Engel
ARB
Waeco
Ironman
Primus
Powertech

The results were very interesting.
On all the fridges, the temp readout was not accurate but 2 of the lesser known makes were more accurate than the well known makes.
Some even failed the cooling down test.
5 of them failed the lid seal test and it appears most fridges leak near the lid hinges.
Far too many stats to write about here so get the mag if you can.
The winner gets my vote for holding capacity, 76 cans
     wooooo hoooooo     lol!

Yes, the old Engel lids did not seal. My old yellow 39L was packed with food when we did a dry blowing trip to Paynesville.
We returned to the camp one afternoon and lifted the lid to find the inside crawling with maggots. The little b******s had their winter coats on and were moving freely. All the meat was in sealed vacuum bags so we washed the bags and fridge out and thought a blowies must have got in when we lifted lid in the morning.
Wrong!!!!! We later saw a couple of blowies hanging around the hinge end of the lid. Low & behold closer inspection revealed deposits of maggots near where the pipes entered the fridge. When we lifted the lid some had already made their way into the fridge.
Using silastic we filled in the gaps around the two pipes and never again did we encounter the problem.
Old yellow is still purring (hmm maybe a bit louder than a purr) 30yrs later.

I think I've still got the magazine and sorry to say, it appears that when it comes down to value for money spent and performance, Engel did not come out on top.  If I recollect, they weren't even in the top 3.
I guess it's like a lot of stuff, you buy by name but it doesn't really mean it's the best these days.
Found the mag and here's 4WDActions opinion.

If the price doesn't matter then,
1st Waeco
2nd ARB
3rd Primus

If you are thinking of the cost then,
1st Waeco CFX50
2nd Ironmans Ice Cube
3rd ARB

The Waeco CFX50 wins, it holds 74 cans lol!

Surprised they never tested Evakool.

The Fridge-Mate 70lt 'dual zone' is a cracker fridge!
