do you have your optima's in battery boxes ? if you do just plug into the 12v cig lighter on the box
or get a 12/240 inverter and use the 240v charger from the battery
I've always just used the 12v charger straight from a battery box. a bit slow and I'm thinking a 12/240 and go that way.

Firm believer in only ever charging accessory batteries using 12V. (detector, GPS/radio, mobile phone etc)

are you meaning your crank battery ? better off with AGM batteries and a battery box that has the 12V cig lighter outlet and use a DC/DC charger to keep the AGM charged.
good set of solar panels will also help.
Cheers

If I'm reading correctly, your second battery would never go flat if you're solar charging it and never use the 12V outlets?
So charging your detector batteries would never be a problem.
