SDC 2300 Knuckle protector
Heads up to all the SDC users out there for a new knuckle protector being sold on Gumtree by Peter Mahony out of Ballarat in Victoria.
This is a nicely designed 3D printed affair that simply snaps into place and provides effective protection to the susceptible underside of the knuckle, ideal for those that like to 'drag' or work their coil as close as possible to the ground. I've run one for a couple of weeks now without issue, importantly fitment requires no modifications to the detector itself and doesn't interfere with folding up the unit, even with a neoprene arm rest in place.
I reckon it's reasonably priced at $20 plus postage and is a bit of a no-brainer to protect your $3K+ investment.
Peter also sells an arm rest brace for those tired of the self-folding arms and an interesting speaker trumpet for the anti-headphone brigade, I have no experience with either of these so can't comment on them.
PS : I have no affiliation with the seller, just happy to provide a positive recommendation for an Aussie product that addresses one (of the many) SDC inherent design flaws. Mike

Re: SDC 2300 Knuckle protector
No worry, cheers to Keith for the heads up I was gonna knock one up out of 1 inch retic pipe and zip ties like the one on eBay but at that price it's not worth pulling the hacksaw out.

Re: SDC 2300 Knuckle protector
I'm all for for DIY but like hippyty mentions, sometimes it's obvious that parting with a few $ is the better choice. In this instance, the ready-made option provides a well designed and manufactured solution the average Joe is unlikely to be able to match or better regardless of the amount of time spent tinkering in the shed.
Personally, I'd rather be out bush swinging adding to my tally of gold finds! Mike

Made my own -using blue leggos (ABS plastic) dissolved in acetone -then you wrap your knuckle in gladwrap and form the ABS onto the gladwrap into its required shape and let it dry -once dry pull it off and trim to suit -I put a couple of small lugs on either side to take a rubber ring that holds it in place-its not that bad looking either -you can keep on layering the ABS on the get any thickness you want -mines about a quarter inch so tough as nails-Dragon

Received mine before I went bush and can report that all three pieces worked well. Unfortunately they never came with a guarantee to find gold

Hi,
I've been trying to locate this add and can only find the old one.
Does anyone have Peter's contact details?
Cheers

Re: SDC 2300 Knuckle protector
Got a trumpet and knuckle yesterday at finders keepers $55.
Tried them out today.
Got 3 for 1.3 and a specie that looks like at least 4 grams (Hoping for 8 or 10)
Cheers

Re: SDC 2300 Knuckle protector
We bought the package from Woody-Foot and a trumpet for the SDC and Carol was very happy on recent trip using the trumpet most days with the added advantage she swings left handed and the target signals were very clear. So much so the SDC came in first with her tally just pipping me swinging the GPZ.
I might add, this very shallow ground has seen prospectors scratching it for a century.
