wike camps Empty wike camps

Post by martinjsto Fri 12 Feb 2016, 10:22 pm

the missus has been planning our trips this year and was finding it difficult to get info on free camping spots 24 hr stop over bays and amenities, etc.
she was directed to this app for the phone and it seems to be absolutely great and highly recommended.
cheers

Also consider Jan Holland books on Wa/North West. Brilliant.

Hi Cliff, I have it but can't upload it "Uploaded file is not valid: invalid attachment name." Let me know if there is a way of doing it and I will post it if you like - its a .kmz file

wike camps Empty Re: wike camps

Post by Steady Eddie Sun 14 Feb 2016, 5:40 am

I downloaded the program from Microsoft Store for windows, It costs $ 7.-. I have also downloaded the offline databank on comments and data - around 45 Mb in size.(comments that people have written about all the listed places in WA). The maps I could not download because they require Windows 10 which I don't have. I have not yet used it, but will comment on it once familiar with the Ins and Outs.
Incidently, the book 'Priceless Campsites in WA' is excellent value for money. It comes in two volumes, the North and South West. I have used them for many years, contain coordinates, good descriptions, and mud maps. In pocket size they can be easily used in the car. A few years ago each volume was around $ 20.-. I bought them from a large newsagent.
On another matter: Anyone who is with Telstra should make use of their free offer on Data use today, Sunday, from midnight to midnight. It is a token in response to their stuff-up the other day when their servers collapsed. You would have received an Email pertaining to this very issue.

I have been using wikicamps for several years and find it invaluable. Not only for camp sites but for the satellite finder, dump points and information centres etc. The "CAMPS" books are also very good and I believe "camps 8" has not long been released.

Thanks Geof. Luckily one of our other members also saved the original download.
I've tried the download twice and it works in google earth.
It might not show as much detail as the app for your phone but it will give some ideas as to where you can camp.
Mind you, I'm still using Windows 7 and they say it will work better in 8 or 10.
Cheers
