DD or mono?
I have a 18" minelab coil. Not sure if it is DD or mono.
The coil is white with a black label on it 'GP series 1800 Minelab'.
Any ideas?

Re: DD or mono?
If the label says GP1800, I would say it is a DD. Even the 3000 came out with the Extreme 18" DD. I'm not sure when the Mono version came out.

DD or mono
weight is a factor to distinguish between the 2, especialy on the larger coils , dd coils are heavy to swing.

Hi,
At one stage I used an GP EXTREME with the standard Minelab 18" black DD coil. I happened to weigh it against the Coiltec 18" DD as I thought it would be somewhat lighter. No such luck; they both came in at around 1.3kg!, because of the double windings. This might help you to identify a DD.

Re: DD or mono?
Easy done...
#1 - Plug it in and run ya machine in Cancel mode.
If ya get a target signal its a DD, no signal = Mono
#2 - With suspected salt coils (Coiltek anti-interference) fit the coil and run the machine in DD mode in your living room, if it screams like a banshie its not a AI coil
it's a DD or Mono, then just use the #1 test to find out
which one it is
